Contributing to The Arts in DISD
Today I wrote the first of many checks in the amount of $500 to BigThought. During the process of publishing this book, we wanted to earmark a percentage for charity in hopes of making a difference. It was important to me that it benefit The Arts, and preferably in the school system so that children are exposed to this vital aspect of life at an early age. In researching Texas foundations, BigThought was recommended for this purpose, as they do exactly what I wanted. They fund education in The Arts at Dallas Independent School District (DISD). Since my daughter teaches music in DISD, this was perfect. After several phone calls and our first meeting earlier this month, I knew they were a perfect fit.
One Dollar for every book sale goes to BigThought to help them educate Dallas students in The Arts. Now that we are on the eve of selling our 500th copy of Texas As I See It, this seemed like the perfect time, right before Christmas, to write the first check.
It goes in today’s mail, enclosed in a note card from TX-Notecards with the image above on the outside. “Blue Notes” seemed like the perfect delivery mechanism for this contribution.
In 2012 we will orchestrate at least one big event combining BigThought, my artwork and a book signing. As soon as the details are firmed up, you will hear about it on this page.
